Overview: 

Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. We are seeking a Systems Engineer who will support the IT Systems group in the Field Intelligence Operations , National Security Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Application Support Analyst to join our team in a secure environment. As an Application Support Analyst, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and continuous availability of critical applications within our secure infrastructure. Your primary focus will be on providing technical support, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining the integrity and security of our applications.

Responsibilities:

• • Application Support: Provide comprehensive support for a variety of applications used within the secure environment, ensuring their availability, reliability, and optimal performance.
  • Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve technical issues related to applications, including identifying root causes, performing analysis, and implementing effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Incident Management: Act as the first point of contact for application-related incidents, manage the incident resolution process, and ensure proper communication and escalation as per established procedures.
  • Security Compliance: Maintain a thorough understanding of security policies, procedures, and protocols governing the secure environment, and ensure applications are in compliance with these requirements.
  • Monitoring and Performance: Monitor application performance, proactively identify potential issues or bottlenecks, and implement necessary enhancements or optimizations to improve overall system performance.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to applications, including support procedures, troubleshooting guides, and system configurations.
  • Change Management: Participate in change management activities, including reviewing and testing application changes, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring smooth transitions.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, network engineers, and security personnel, to address application-related challenges and implement effective solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in application support and security to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend enhancements to existing processes and systems.

Qualifications:

• • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience as an Application Support Analyst, preferably in a secure environment.
  • Strong knowledge of application support methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Solid understanding of secure environments, including security protocols, access controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving application-related issues.
  • Familiarity with incident management and change management processes.

• • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certifications in relevant areas such as ITIL, application support, or security.
• Experience with SQL, Jira, Confluence, IIS, Apache, Tomcat, MS System Center.
• Experience in server and system administration in classified environment.
• Demonstrated ability in strategic thinking, planning, troubleshooting.

Special Requirements

Q clearance with SCI: This position requires the possession of and the ability to maintain a Top Secret (TS) or DOE “Q” security clearance and the ability to obtain a Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance based on Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) 704 requirements. Additionally, all employees of the Division are required to successfully complete a security evaluation, including a Counterintelligence scope polygraph examination.  As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.  Some afterhours work is required.
