Overview:
We are seeking a Process Controls Designer who will focus on Serve as Process Controls Designer for the development and implementation of control drawing packages and standards for the Integrated Control System (ICS) at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS). This position resides in the CF & Vacuum Group in the Controls Section, RAD, Neutron Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Development and implementation of control drawing standards for the SNS ICS; work with other designers and engineers to ensure drawings adhere to the standards.

Perform field walk-downs and create as-built drawings of existing control systems at the SNS facility. Create new design drawing packages based on Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) based components to replace existing table I/O list format documentation.

Convert detail wire lists into drawing packages consisting of documentation for control rack layout with BOM, power distribution drawings, wiring diagrams junction box layout and cable assembly drawings.

Develop design packages to procure control system enclosures or racks from fabrication shops. Be the liaison between fabrication personnel and control engineer during rack/panel assembly. Provide updates of design changes during the assembly phase to fabrication shops to keep projects on schedule.

Provide Document Change Notification (DCN) support by creating drawing modifications or generation of new documentation.

Maintain documentation in the Document Controls Center (DCC) central repository. Work with the DCC personnel to maintain proper revision control of drawings.

Work with members of the Control Systems Section to meet the accelerator power and reliability goals.

Ensure a safe and efficient work environment and compliance with ESH&Q procedures and programs.

Basic Qualifications:

An AS degree in electrical or electronics technologies and at least 2 years of PLC-based Process Control Designer experience (a high school diploma will be considered in lieu of degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience).

Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD to create wiring diagrams, loop drawings, PLC layouts, and P&ID drawings for complex control systems.

Demonstrated ability to translate wiring list or other forms of documentation into design drawings.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience at a neutron user facility, synchrotron light source or other large-scale experimental physics project or user facility is highly preferred.

Experience utilizing AutoCAD tools to create design documentation for Allen-Bradley PLCs controls.

Experience with control system architectures and distributed I/O over ControlNet, DeviceNet, and Ethernet communication. Process Control Designer experience with special emphasis in protection systems and process controls.

Experience with drawing revision / release control processes and maintaining documentation in a central repository.

Knowledge of EDRM or similar engineering project collaboration software
