Overview:
Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. We are seeking a Cyber-Physical Researcher who will support the Cyber Resilience & Intelligence Division in the National Security Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Initiate, lead and perform independent and impactful R&D on an ongoing basis as evidenced by, for example, innovative S&T delivered to sponsors, successful proposals, S&T presentations, professional community engagement, inventions/patents/copyrights, and publications as appropriate.
- Develop and implement plans to pursue new opportunities and/or expand existing efforts.
- Assist junior staff in setting performance goals consistent with the group’s strategy and members’ long-term career goals. Provide feedback to address performance issues in a timely manner.
- Provide relevant input to assist the Group Leader and the Section Head with staff development while providing direct and impactful guidance to staff on regular basis.
- Attract a quality, diverse pool of top candidates and hire staff members who are committed to world-class R&D and aspire to be the best in their field.
- Lead by example by exercising scientific integrity in proposing, performing, and communicating research.
- Lead by example to ensure all work is carried out safely, securely, and in compliance with ORNL policies, standards, and procedures.
- Exemplify a commitment to excellence in research, operations, and community engagement, and work cooperatively to leverage scientific capabilities across ORNL.
- Advance the reputation of the staff and standing of the group as a whole through establishing collaborations, professional society leadership and involvement, and organization of technical events.
Basic Qualifications:
- M.S. in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of experience (A combination of education and experience may also be considered).
- Qualified candidates should have demonstrated experience in leading R&D teams in cyber physical systems, embedded systems or related areas.
- Demonstrated track record of being a Principal Investigator for Department of Energy Projects
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated leadership ability and a strong commitment to a teaming environment.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated Power Systems Engineering experience working in classified and unclassified research environments.
- Demonstrated experience with SCADA, Energy Management Sysetms, Distribution Management Systems, and ICCP software involving complex hardware-in-the-loop and software testbeds.
- Demonstrated experience with SCADA, EMS, DMS, and ICCP software involving complex hardware-in-the-loop and software testbeds.
- Experience with Internet of Things
- Demonstrated track record in national engagements that seek to sustain and strengthen the cyber physical and embedded systems security community.
Q clearance with SCI: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an Secret Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program. In addition, due the SCI, you may be also be subject to random polygraph testing.
