Overview: 

Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. We are seeking a Project Coordinator who will support the Domestic Uranium Enrichment Centrifuge Experiment (DUECE) project through the Technical Support Services Group in the Enrichment Science and Engineering Division (ESED), Isotope Science and Engineering Directorate (ISED) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). ESED serves the nation in two critical areas: advancing enrichment technologies and exploring stable isotope production and applications. The division leverages an elite staff of scientists and engineers with the world-leading capabilities of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to deliver groundbreaking advancements with a variety of applications, from national security to life-saving medical treatments. ESED is the national steward for the research, development, and demonstration of centrifuge technology. The successful candidate will provide support for research and development using principles of Integrated Safety Management (ISM) within a division that supports multiple projects and programs. The Technical Support Services Group provides division-wide services in support of the strategic advancement of science and technology focused on the research and development of prototype enrichment devices for processing uranium-bearing and stable isotope compounds.
 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will provide support to the DUECE project  by facilitating workflow, streamlining processes, and coordinating the execution of DUECE deliverables identified by project and program management.  The Technical Project Execution Coordinator works closely with the Technical Project Manager, Deputy Project Manager, Division Director, Control Account Managers (CAMs), Section Heads, and Group Leaders to execute the scope of work defined in the project management plan (PMP). The selected candidate will have supporting interface with the project/program sponsor and oversight personnel.  Additional interfaces will be with principal investigators, management, engineers, technicians, and other individual stakeholder personnel. This position’s responsibilities include:

 

  • Collaborate with division and directorate leadership to support advances in the Domestic Uranium Enrichment (DUE) Program scientific and technical goals at ORNL.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate with DUECE project leaders and team members to ensure successful and timely execution of deliverables.
  • Prioritize requests in areas of project execution, task development, and operations to support the project team
  • Track project deliverables using appropriate tools. Generate status reports and conduct post-project evaluation.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration amongst  cross-functional teams
  • Liaise with ORNL Subject Matter Experts and seeki external expertise when needed to produce deliverables.
  • Exemplify a commitment to “One ORNL” by modeling lab expectations for excellence in research, operations, and community engagement, and by working cooperatively to leverage capabilities across the lab

 

The successful candidate will be required to effectively interact with various personnel and sponsors, both within and outside of ORNL. The ability to learn quickly and adapt to change is necessary. The candidate is expected to be able to work in a team environment with co-workers and management as well as perform independently. Excellent communication skills, including verbal, presentation, and writing skills are required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. in a business related or  technical field with 2-4 years of experience in experimental research and development within a large, multiprogram research environment, or an M.S. in a technical field with 1-3 years relevant experience.
  • Ability to hold and maintain a DOE Q security clearance
  • Demonstrated experience in working with diverse R&D teams to solve complex, interdisciplinary problems.
  • The ability to work flexible hours and travel when required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with proven ability to successfully interact with internal and external project stakeholders
  • Proven ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever-changing needs
  • A strong understanding of and application experience with the principles of project management

 

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DOE Q clearance
  • Experience within the isotope enrichment industry
  • Understanding of DOE Order 413.3
  • Experience in preparing and participating in DOE critical decision reviews
  • Experience with the marking, handling, and storage requirements of sensitive documents (e.g., OUO, ECI, UCNI, CRD, SRD)
