Overview:
We are seeking a financial analyst who will focus on budget preparation, cost analysis and control, financial reporting, and other special assignments, requiring knowledge of systems and methods commonly used in the financial community. This position resides in the Business Operations Division and will support multiple technical directorates at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for account management, funds control, budget planning, budget allocations, cost analysis, cost transfers, special requests, and interaction with project staff to resolve problems.
- Responsible for planning, coordination, and final preparation of project/program budgets and evaluation of changing funding levels.
- Performs cost analysis on interdivisional projects of major significance.
- Provides professional guidance to management regarding budgeting and accounting policies, methods, and techniques.
- Prepares and ensures compliance with monthly and quarterly reporting requirements and year-end close-out requirements.
- Prepares and delivers financial presentations to Division Directors, Section Heads, and/or Group Leaders within assigned technical directorate and to Business Services leadership.
- Prepare models, analytical studies, and reporting for laboratory costs and indirect rates.
- Identify and remain compliant with financial laws and regulations.
- Respond to and follow up to ad hoc requests from project staff for financial information.
- Ensures compliance with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements.

Basic Qualifications:
- A BS/BA degree in finance, accounting, or a business-related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Collateral degree or background in information management or business analytics.
- Knowledge of UT-Battelle and DOE accounting systems.
- Experience with SQL Server and Visual Basic for Applications.
- Experience with SAP.
- Experience with power query and power BI.
- Demonstrated planning and organizing skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously with changing priorities.
- Excellent problem analysis and resolution skills.
- Demonstrated ability to assess priorities, allocate workloads and meet conflicting deadlines.
- Proficiency in applying accounting principles, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to interface with scientific and technical staff utilizing excellent human relations skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.

- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge.

This position is located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and requires onsite presence. We offer a flexible work environment that supports both the organization and the employee. A hybrid/onsite working arrangement may be available with this position, which provides flexibility to work periodically from your home, while reporting onsite to the Oak Ridge, Tennessee location on a weekly and regular basis.
