We are seeking a Nuclear Reactor Trainer who will focus on development, implementation, and evaluation of training and examination programs for new-hire and incumbent personnel in assigned disciplines at the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR). This position resides in the Reactor Certifications & Qualifications Group in the Business Management Section, Research Reactors Division, Neutron Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain lesson plans, instructional aids, and examinations as necessary to support initial and continuing training in assigned disciplines.

Implements developed training in various settings (classroom, OJT, mockup).

Performs review of instructional materials for technical sufficiency.

Develops, grades, and administers written, oral, walkthroughs, operational, and scenario examinations.

Conducts training needs assessments to identify the knowledge skills and abilities required in specific jobs.

Conducts job and task analyses to identify critical tasks and task elements requiring training.

Conducts evaluations of training effectiveness.

Monitors the performance and progress of on-the-job training in the assigned program areas and recommends appropriate actions for identified deficiencies.

Administers on-the-job training task qualification standards (task checkouts).

Develops and submits reports of training and evaluation activities.

Assists with periodic comprehensive training program self-audits/self-assessments.

Conducts special qualification training for Research Reactors Division (RRD) staff.

Conducts remedial training programs to address demonstrated performance deficiencies (i.e., exam failures or as identified by management) as required.

Maintain certification/qualification and operational proficiency at the HFIR as HFIR Shift Supervisor/Senior Reactor Operator.

Maintain RRD Instructional Technologist qualification.

Assists the division drill coordinator in planning, developing, and conducting drills and exercises.

May serve as the RRD drill coordinator.

Basic Qualifications:

A BS degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent.

At least of 3 years of nuclear plant experience, which includes a minimum of 6 months of experience at the HFIR facility.

Experience as a HFIR Reactor Operator/Senior Reactor Operator.
Preferred Qualifications:

Current HFIR Senior Reactor Operator certification.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across ORNL.

Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
Special Requirements:
-
Will be required to achieve and maintain HFIR Shift Supervisor qualification.

Will be required to achieve and maintain RRD Instructional Technologist qualification.

Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
HSPD-12 PIV badge:
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge.
L clearance:
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
