Overview:
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks to hire an NDE Technologist for the Fabrication, Instrumentation & Inspection Division’s Non-Destructive Examination Program in the Facilities & Operations Directorate.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform technical duties under general supervision which include enforcement of codes for inspection of components that ensure operational suitability and safety. Inspection Methods and Techniques include:
- Radiographic Testing (RT) of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys to verify the internal structure and integrity of the specimen. Techniques include:
- Computed Radiography
- Digital Radiography
- Digital Image Archiving for Nuclear Applications
- Computed Tomography
- Leak Testing (LT) for the location of leaks or measurement of leak rates. Techniques include:
- Bubble Testing
- Pressure Change Measurement Test
- Mass Spectrometry (magnetic sector and RGA)
- Ultrasonic
- Conductance Meter
- Liquid Penetrant (PT) examination for the detection of surface discontinuities in non-porous metallic and non-metallic materials. Techniques include:

Magnetic Particle (MT) examination of ferromagnetic materials such as welds, semi-finished materials, and in-service parts to include lifting hooks. Techniques include:

Ultrasonic Testing (UT) to detect internal flaws or to characterize materials. Perform thickness measurements using ultrasonic equipment. Techniques include:

2. Complete training and maintain certification in required nondestructive examination methods.
3. Independently perform non-destructive examinations in accordance with company NDE procedures.
4. Record data and report examination results.
5. Work with Level III personnel for technique development and inspection of unique and/or complex components.
6. Work with equipment owners to answer basic code questions and to verify the adequacy of correction of violations.
7. Periodically assist in development, review, and revision of job hazard evaluations, internal operating procedures, and inspection checklists to ensure adequate flow down of requirements.
8. Routinely read and interpret adopted codes, technical manuals, drawings, instructions, and specifications as related to the equipment to be inspected.
9. Study technical literature and attends meetings to keep current on applicable codes and code changes as they occur.
10. Work with bargaining unit employees, as needed, on fabrication and other projects.

Basic Qualifications:
- AS degree in NDT, science, engineering or math with minimum of 5 years related NDE field experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- ASNT NDT Level II or III in at least 3 of following methods is required: Radiographic Testing, Ultrasonic Testing, Leak Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Penetrant Testing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in ET, LT, and RT (CR/DR) is preferred.
- Working knowledge of ASNT; ASME B-31, API, ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, hydrostatic and pneumatic testing is preferred.
- Basic, algebraic, and trigonometric math skills.
- Capacity to use complex computer software including Volume Graphics.
Special Requirements:
- Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. This includes the ability to see near and far in addition to perceiving both depth and color. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
- Export control, no clearance: This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license.
- HSPD-12 PIV badge: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge.
- Visa Sponsorship: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
