Overview:
We are seeking a Nuclear Material Control and Accountability Specialist who will focus on supporting the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) NMC&A Plan. ORNL NMC&A is responsible for providing programmatic and technical support and expertise to the ORNL NMC&A functions. This position resides in the Nuclear Facility Safety Division within the Environmental Safety, Health, and Quality Directorate at ORNL. The position will report to the NMC&A Manager.
As part of our team, you will assist the NMC&A team in supporting the management and oversight of the ORNL NMC&A Program and oversight of ORNL Material Balance Areas (MBA) and NMC&A activities which potentially cover all areas of NMC&A (Program Management, Material Control, Material Accounting, Physical Inventory, Nuclear Material Management, and Measurements). In addition, this position will be responsible for ensuring compliance with DOE Order 474.2A Change 1, Nuclear Material Control and Accountability and 410.2, Management of Nuclear Materials.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the NMC&A Manager to support day-to-day administrative duties and programmatic functions.
- Support the Senior Specialist with routine programmatic and administrative activities.
- Oversee assigned Material Balance Areas (MBA).
- Enter and maintain nuclear material records data in a web-based application.
- Support administrative efforts associated with developing, updating, and maintaining MBA Supplemental Procedures and MBA Protection Agreements.
- Perform physical inventories and reconciliations of MBAs.
- Assist with administrative and documentation activities related to nuclear material waste management.
- Support customer needs by coordinating assigned deliverables, tracking action items, and assisting with communications and documentation.
- Assist with maintaining records, files, schedules, and other program documentation necessary to support NMC&A operations and compliance activities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by assisting with planning, coordination, and implementation of program enhancements.

Basic Qualifications:
- BS/BA degree.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain organized and accurate documentation and records.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to learn and apply new processes, procedures, and systems while working in a compliance-focused environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively and provide administrative and programmatic support to senior staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a regulated, compliance-driven, or documentation-intensive environment.
- Experience with data entry, records systems, or web-based applications.
- Experience coordinating schedules, reports, action tracking, or administrative workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to grow into roles with increasing responsibility.
Special Requirements:
- Q Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
