Overview: 

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory has an opening for a Technical Professional staff member for the NNFD Facility Management Section as a Safety Basis Implementation Lead.  In this role, you will develop implementation plans/procedures/processes for the implementation of safety basis documents for the NNFD category 2 and 3 non-reactor nuclear facilities.  This position will also provide technical direction, guidance, and assistance in the development of safety basis documents for the NNFD nuclear facilities.  This position reports to the Nuclear Facilities Management Section Head.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development of implementation plans and the supporting procedures and processes which implement the requirements of DOE-approved Documented Safety Analyses.
  • Support the development of Nonreactor Nuclear Facility Documented Safety Analyses prepared in accordance with DOE Standard 3009.
  • Support the upgrade of safety basis documents for the NNFD nuclear facilities from DOE-STD-3009-1994 to DOE-STD-3009-2014.
  • Support the startup and/or restart of nuclear facilities in accordance with DOE Order 425.1D developing startup checkslists, plan of actions, and leading readiness assessments when necessary
  • Support the development and implementation of nuclear criticality safety analyses
  • Support the development of consistent and rigorous inventory controls for each facility to ensure that the “material-at-risk” that is established in the facility DSAs is properly controlled

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires a B.S. with 5 years relevant experience, or significant relevant experience.  Degree must be in an engineering field or related science.  Qualified candidates must have a minimum of 4 years of nuclear experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with DOE nonreactor nuclear facilities and safety basis development and implementation.  This position also requires experience with Microsoft Office software, particularly Project, Word, PowerPoint and Excel applications.
