Nuclear Facility Work Package Lead

Overview: 

ORNL is investing in our nuclear facilities to ensure the directorate goals are met and strategies are executed. To support and protect our assets we are hiring a Nuclear Facility Work Package Lead to develop and review nuclear facility work packages including written step-by-step work instructions, procedures, safety and testing requirements for the implementation and control of operations, maintenance, or modification work activities within NNFD.  A successful candidate in this technical role will utilize specialized knowledge in nuclear work package requirements and DOE guidance.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure all work package standards are met per DOE G 433.1-1A as well as local requirements
  • Utilize a graded approach and determine applicability whereby any work that could affect the operation of a Category 2 or 3 Nuclear Facility is Grade 1 requiring a work package with proper content
  • Prepare, review and issue nuclear facility equipment and/or system modification work packages.
  • Review and interpret various engineering, design, technical and vendor prints, drawings, schematics, documents, diagrams and specifications to ensure sufficient information to produce work packages for repairs, projects, and modifications.
  • Perform physical walkdown of the area or system to identify potentially hazardous conditions or configuration anomalies
  • Provide work control package technical review for quality and consistency as well as provide work guidance and instruction to other work control personnel in a lead or coordinating capacity.
  • Develop step-by-step instructions for the work activity
  • Prepare or review instructions for the isolation, containment or de-energization of various mechanical, physical, electrical, chemical energy systems or radiological sources according to established procedures, DOE orders and regulations relating to minimization of potential hazards.
  • Perform supporting functional activities including permit development, testing requirements, documentation generation, records management, and database information management.
  • Coordinate the integrated discipline of work packages to ensure involvement of the appropriate persons and the proper sequence of carrying out the work
  • Work Package Closeout - Review completed work packages for proper documentation, post-maintenance testing, safety hazards encountered, feedback, possible changes to the PM program, and equipment history update.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Direct experience in the operation, support, or maintenance of nuclear facilities

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recognized industry certification such as CMRP, CRL, CFM, RMIC
  • Experience in maintaining assets in a nuclear facility and familiarity with Directive DOE G 433.1-1
  • NNFD Task Lead Qualified

 

Special Requirements:

 

Q or L clearance: 

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
