We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will support the Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry Group in the Biosciences Division (BSD), Biological and Environmental Systems Science Directorate (BESSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

• Develop new analytical approaches for atmospheric pressure liquid extraction mass spectrometry and apply them to study living biosystems.
• Develop new methods to evaluate metabolic phenotyping of pathogens on material interface arrays.
• Apply high throughput technologies towards measure of single cell chemistry.
• Evaluate and interpret mass spectrometry data to understand biological processes.
• Participate in development of new research directions.
• Present and report research results at meetings and conferences and publish scientific results in peer reviewed. journals in a timely manner.
• Work with ORNL staff and other postdoctoral research associates and students to accomplish the research goals
• Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

• A PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field completed within the last 5 years.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with mass spectrometry, with special emphasis on mass spectrometry imaging, instrument development, method development, atmospheric pressure mass spectrometry, omics.
• Experience in application of new analytical tools towards understanding biological systems.
• Experience in mass spectral data analysis (Matlab, Python, R, etc.).
• Experience with biological systems and biochemistry.
• An excellent record of productive and creative research demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory. 
• Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.

Applicants cannot have received their Ph.D. more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. The appointment length will be for up to 24 months with the potential for extension. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and the availability of funding.
