Overview:
The Multifunctional Equipment Integration Group in the Building and Transportation Science Division (BTSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking qualified candidates to fill a Post-Doctoral researcher position. The work in this group supports the U.S. DOE Building Technology Office and other customers by developing state-of-the-art building equipment for energy efficiency, decarbonization, and improved life cycle climate performance.

Major Duties / Responsibilities
- The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting, coordinating, and reporting complex research assignments related to energy conversion systems including:
- Prototype design and development
- Systems integration
- Experimental setup and performance testing
- Analysis of results
- Preparing research publications
- Develop experimental setup, problem-solving, conducting experimental campaigns, performing thermodynamic analysis and system modeling, analyzing results, and preparing technical documents and research publications.
- Interacting and collaborating with researchers from universities, national laboratories, and private industry.

Basic Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field completed within the last five years.
- Background and experience in (a) design and operation of experimental thermal/fluid systems, (b) mechanical systems and instrumentation, (c) knowledge in fluid dynamics, combustion, and heat transfer.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in developing new ideas and proposal writing is a plus.
- Innovative thinking and problem solving.
- Experience in thermal characterization.
- A proven publication record.
- Experience with prototype development is also a plus.
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills are required.
- Experience with heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) equipment is also a plus.
Special Requirements:
Applicants cannot have received their Ph.D. more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. The appointment length will be up to 24 months with the potential for extension. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and availability of funding.
