We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will support efforts between the Chemical Sciences and Biosciences Divisions to build and test a new a multimodal quantum nonlinear optical microscope. The postdoctoral research associate will help develop the quantum light imaging modalities and validate their quantum advantages in multiphoton excitation efficiency of biological samples as part of a multi-disciplinary team involving experts in ultrafast optical spectroscopy, nonlinear optical imaging, quantum light, microbiology, and confocal imaging methods.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Work cooperatively with a diverse team of scientists seeking to develop and validate a novel quantum light microscope capability
  • Investigate the effects of quantum light illumination compared to classical illumination on biological systems
  • Participate in the development of new research directions in the emerging field of quantum light spectroscopy and microscopy, especially for biological applications
  • Communicate research results at meetings and conferences and publish scientific results in peer-reviewed journals in a timely manner. 
  • Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements

 

Basic Qualifications:

  •  A PhD in Chemistry, Physics, or a related field completed within the last 5 years
  • Experience with ultrafast optical spectroscopies and/or nonlinear optical microscopies, with special emphasis on two-photon fluorescence, fluorescence lifetime and second-harmonic generation imaging

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with quantum light (entangled photons and squeezed light) generation, detection, and spectroscopic applications is highly desirable
  • Experience controlling hardware using LabVIEW and data analysis using Python/Matlab
  • Experience with biological systems and optical imaging preferred, but not required
  • An excellent record of productive and creative research demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory 
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
