Overview:

The Quantum Information Science Group (https://www.ornl.gov/division/csed/quantum-information) in the Computational Sciences and Engineering Division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks candidates for postdoctoral research positions in theoretical and experimental quantum information science.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in new and ongoing research in quantum communication, quantum computing, and quantum-enhanced sensing.
  • Formulate novel quantum information solutions to problems of national interest and support the research and development necessary for the practical implementation of those solutions.
  • Interpret, report, and present research concepts and results to national audiences at all levels.
  • Write peer-reviewed papers and technical reports for internal and external release and represent the organization by giving technical presentations in large public forums

 

Qualifications Required:

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • Ph.D. in physics, optics, computer science, or a field related to the job duties.
  • Previous research experience in theoretical and/or experimental quantum information.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of quantum computing software infrastructure including programing languages
  • Knowledge of scientific applications of quantum computing including quantum algorithms

 

Additional Information:

Applicants cannot have received their Ph.D. more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. The appointment length will be up to 24 months with the potential for extension. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and availability of funding.
