Overview:    

The Radar and Computational Imaging Group within the National Security Sciences Directorate has an opening for a Radar and Advanced Signal Processing Engineer to conduct research and development in the area of Radar, RF, and Optics Applications Research. 

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:   

  • Utilize advanced signal processing techniques to support algorithm development, technology assessments, engineering analysis, engineering studies, design reviews, and specifications development for existing and future radar and optical tracking systems. 
  • Develop new instrumentation, target, and threat simulation systems for the Department of Energy (DoE) and other government agencies (OGAs). 
  • Develop and prototype radar transponders, develop advanced radar data processing tools utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), advance sensor fusion technologies, and perform radar fleet analysis to influence future radar procurements. 
  • Help envision, design, develop, test, and deploy radar and optics technologies to support national security needs. 
  • Develop innovative solutions for general radar and optics challenges and collaboration with other team members for the development of technical demonstrations, proposals, oral presentations, and publications. 

  

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Requires a degree in electrical and computer engineering, computer science, mathematics, or related field. Any of the following education and experience combinations may be considered: 
  • B.S. and 4 years of relevant experience 
  • M.S. and 3 years of relevant experience 
  • Ph.D.  
  • Proven signal processing experience in radar, RF, and/or optics applications. 

 

  Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with prototyping RF electronics in a lab environment. 
  • Experience with AI/ML. 
  • Experience with RF signature recognition and classification algorithms. 
  • Experience with Computational Imaging and Image Reconstruction techniques. 
  • Experience programming in Python, C, and/or C++. 
  • Familiarity with federal funding procedures, regulations, policies, and practices. 
  • Experience developing and managing research projects. 
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying technical material to both scientists and non-scientists in both written and oral presentations. 
  • Self-disciplined work ethic and eagerness to tackle challenging research problems. 
  • Strong desire to work in a team environment. 

 

Special Requirements:  

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
