Overview:

We invite applications for the position of Radio Frequency (RF) Test Expert to support ORNL’s Radio Frequency and Intelligent Systems (RFIS) Group in the Electrification and Energy Infrastructures Division (EEID). This position will support the Technical Testing and Analysis Center (TTAC) as the RF subject matter expert.  The applicant will be considered a technical expert in testing and analysis techniques and work in partnership with R&D personnel from ORNL, government, and private entities to further the program mission. The primary duty of this position is evaluating sponsor needs with regards to RF testing and other electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)/interference (EMI) testing, determining test execution, analyzing results, and contributing to reports.  This position will involve working closely with the TTAC Program Lead and other researchers and engineers as needed.  The applicant shall demonstrate characteristics that foster team progress, initiative to take-on challenging assignments, and create opportunity where none exists. This position requires a self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills and willingness to be a team player.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate TTAC’s EMC/EMI capabilities to address sponsor needs
  • Train staff on equipment, maintain equipment, analyze test results
  • Contribute to technical reports for sponsors, program managers, and technical peers 
  • Active in EMC/EMI standards development
  • Participate on technical teams needing RF expertise

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience with EMC/EMI testing
  • Experience working with LabView and MatLab
  • Familiarity with statistical methods for data analysis
  • Excellent communication skills in a team environment 
  • Ability to work both independently and with others

 

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
