Overview:
The Laboratory Protection Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is actively seeking a Security Systems Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring systems stability, security performance, and efficient operation of the security systems that protect Department of Energy (DOE) assets. This is accomplished by providing oversight of various security systems, design and installation of alarm systems, video assessment and surveillance systems, automated barriers, as well as collaborating with local craft supervision, other prime contractors.
Duties/Responsibilities:

Design, develops and implements scalable solution for security system installations, upgrades, repairs, and change outs.

Coordinates, plans, and schedules work activities related to the security systems infrastructure throughout the ORNL site.

Supports multiple security systems to include access control systems, intrusion detection and alarm systems, video assessment and surveillance systems, automated barriers, servers/workstation, and IP networking devices.

Leads and coordinates with other technicians, electricians, and engineers to install, maintain, and troubleshoot security system devices and applications.

Maintains knowledge of all related security procedures and regulations needed to support the laboratory mission.

Assists management in process reviews on audits, conducts internal self-assessments, and resolves any findings derived from these processes.

Provides recommendation for technology enhancements and improvements and perform due diligence in assessing new technology solutions, including cost and budget preparation.

Creates and maintains documentation and drawings of all assigned systems.

Ensures that 24/7 technical support is provided for assigned systems, off-normal events are reviewed and resolved, and corrective actions are initiated.

Basic Qualifications:

A BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, and a minimum of five years of experience in security systems or relevant experience in physical security, or IP networking. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Strong knowledge of application design, development, and testing techniques.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Familiarity with DOE Order 473.1A and any other applicable DOE Order or Standards.

Familiarity with the Velocity Alarm System, Avigilon Security Systems, and RS2 Access Control Software

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to work with numerous cognizant security agencies, customers, and senior managers.

Ability to work on and prioritize a wide variety of tasks simultaneously.

Ability to handle complex designs, accuracy, and ability to pay attention to detail.

Active DOE security clearance.
Special Requirements:
-
Q clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
