Overview:  

We are seeking a part-time Senior R&D Materials Knowledgebase Operating Developer who will focus on operation and maintenance/development of advanced materials knowledgebase. This position resides in the Advanced Nuclear Materials Group in the Materials in Extremes Section, Materials Science and Technology Division, Physical Science Directorate, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain, operate, and develop structural materials knowledgebases in the ANSYS Granta Materials Intelligence System framework
  • Interact with and manage the knowledgebase users/applicants to support projects of organizations including, but not limited to, the Department of Energy (DOE), the Gen IV International Forum (GIF), and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
  • Resolve emerging operational and technical problems of the system to the users’ satisfaction

Basic Qualifications:

  • A PhD in in Material Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in ANSYS Granta Materials Intelligence System development and operation; a master’s degree in Material Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 12 years of experience may also be considered
  • Qualifications for handling export control information

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Skilled in computer languages including, but not limited to, VB, SQL, and HTML.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in international collaboration
  • Extensive knowledge of ASME Codes and Standards
  • Participation in GIF collaboration and ASME Codes and Standards development
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.

 

Special Requirements:

  • Export control, no clearance: This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license.
  • Visa Sponsorship: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
