The Nuclear and Radiological Protection Division is seeking a Senior Technical Systems Liaison to support the Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s (ORNL) mission.  The position is responsible for maintaining, testing, and ongoing support of enterprise-level solutions that support the science mission while protecting staff from nuclear and radiological hazards and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.  These integrated software systems are critical for safe and compliant nuclear and radiological operations. The various functions that these systems support include tracking radioactive material inventories across radiological facilities, managing radioactive sealed sources, providing tools for radiological protection operations (radiological surveys, radiological work permits, radiological event reports, etc.), sitewide real-time radiation monitoring network, and bioassay data management and reports for individuals. This position will work as part of a team that supports these existing applications while working with IT to maintain server and database administration.


Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Create and maintain interfaces that share data between Radiological Protection applications and other systems as the technical subject matter expert.

  • Develop and maintain Oracle and SQL Server Stored Procedures/Functions/Triggers

  • Extract or update data using SQL or PL/SQL

  • Provide support for existing Oracle Forms/Reports and ColdFusion applications while developing the new systems, working with senior technical managers across ORNL

  • Provide support for existing EPD workstations and the EPD software upgrade currently in progress.

  • Provide technical support and serve as technical lead for managing existing ESHQ servers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or related technical/science degree. Must have a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. A combination of experience and education will be considered.

  • Development of applications using relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, etc.

  • Formalized web application development and debugging techniques

  • Design and development of web applications

  • 15+ years of programming and architecture experience

  • 15+ years of server and database administration experience



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with database triggers, stored procedures, and functions

  • Experience with HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, and CSS 3

  • Experience with ColdFusion and .NET

  • Experience with GIT or other source control

  • Technical background with a basic understanding of health physics principles.


Special Requirements: 

  • Q Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
