Overview: The Digital Manufacturing and Analyses Frameworks Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks a senior research professional to lead world class capabilities related to manufacturing science and technology. This position provides a unique opportunity to work on cross-cutting projects, collaborating with professionals across groups, to innovate in the area of machine learning and artificial intelligence in the manufacturing and industrial sector. This position is in the Secure and Digital Manufacturing section of the Manufacturing Sciences Division. Our goal is to integrate capabilities in IIoT, communication, computing, storage and user interface for advanced manufacturing process analysis, modeling and controls to ensure an energy efficient and secure manufacturing ecosystem. Senior staff in this position will bring together peers with the goal of pursuing global scientific leadership in their field keeping an eye to the real world application of developed solutions.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Scientists/Engineers continue to be recognized leaders in their area of expertise.

• Initiate, lead, and support initiatives fulfilling the goals of DOE and ORNL within manufacturing sector.

• Prepare proposals and associated materials as required for advancing new ideas and opportunities.

• Work cooperatively while advancing the standing of the division, section, and group as a whole through collaborations, professional society memberships, and technical presentations.

• Keep abreast of new and emerging technologies and identify opportunities to apply them in a research and development environment.

• Responsible for a key leadership role in the Digital Manufacturing and Analyses Frameworks group by providing scientific direction, guidance, and mentorship to fellow scientists, engineers, and other staff.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• A Doctorate in computer science, mathematics, or related field and 6 years of relevant experience

• Expertise in developing and implementing AI/ML algorithms for real-time industrial data streaming and analysis, including anomaly detection, predictive maintenance and process improvement

• Ability to implement highly efficient algorithms for data acquisition and edge computing

• Cutting edge understanding of IIoT challenges, potential and security concerns as well as development of models for analytics

• History in leadership of teams responsible for development, implementation, and deployment of IIoT solutions in an industrial or manufacturing setting.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with newer approaches to software development such as cloud and edge computing

• Demonstrated leadership in the industrial community, as demonstrated through publications and professional organization membership.
