Overview:
The Grid Systems Hardware (GSH) Group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is actively seeking applicants for an electrical technician to help with design and build of electrical/electronic systems. The candidate is expected to have a good understanding of basic electrical wiring, breaker operation, and other electrical equipment installation works.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Follow schematics to do electrical cabling/wiring, operate breakers, and assemble electrical systems.
- Use software tools to generate and maintain electrical schematics.
- Use hand/power tools in the process of build/assemble of test beds.

Basic Qualifications:
- AS in electrical, electronic, mechanical engineering or an equivalent qualification in related field.
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience.
- Experience related to designing and fabricating electrical systems.
- Experience related to operating with at least 480 V electrical systems (breakers/fuses).
- Experience with use of mechanical tools is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills to support team building and leadership.
- A strong commitment to scientific integrity is an important requirement.

- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
Special Requirements:
- This is a temporary 24-month position. The appointment length will be up to 24 months with the potential for extension. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and availability of funding.
- Some travel will be required for this position.
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
