Overview:

We invite applications for the position of Test and Evaluation Technician to support ORNL’s Radio Frequency and Intelligent Systems (RFIS) Group in the Electrification and Energy Infrastructures Division (EEID). This position will also support the Technical Testing and Analysis Center (TTAC).  This position is responsible for testing, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of measurement and test equipment in radiological, environmental, mechanical, and electromagnetic testing sections.  It requires experience in best practices in skilled testing techniques of equipment.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to test equipment based on industry standards and provide detailed observations to assist manufacturers or research staff in the improvement of their equipment.  This position will require serving as an effective team member operating equipment and collecting data in field test campaigns. The successful candidate will work well in a team environment as an effective contributing member.  Team members are expected to contribute to the success of the project by applying their creativity and ability to develop innovative solutions in a team environment.  This position requires the flexibility to adapt to a wide variety of projects to meet the priorities of sponsors.  It will require the ability to learn new technologies and systems without formal training as necessary to meet project goals.  This position will involve working closely with the TTAC Program Lead and other researchers and engineers as needed.  This position requires a self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills and willingness to be a team player.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities

  • Maintain test and evaluation equipment within TTAC
  • Conduct test execution of equipment under test
  • Clearly communicate, both verbally and in writing
  • Participate on technical teams 
  • Contribute to technical reports

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in engineering technology or a related field

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with maintaining laboratory equipment
  • Experience with test setups, troubleshooting
  • Excellent communication skills in a team environment 
  • Ability to work both independently and with others

 

Special Requirements:

 

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
