This position will require the applicant to perform research in advanced manufacturing with a focus on the electrical systems design and integration. The scientist will contribute through electrical system design to ORNL’s efforts to become a leader in robotics and intelligent systems for manufacturing.




The Department of Energy Manufacturing Demonstration Facility and the ­­­­Advanced Manufacturing Group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) are seeking an experienced electrical engineer (design, integration, troubleshooting)  to conduct projects, expand research, and manage R&D in the development of projects to support the manufacturing R&D portfolio. The specific focus of this job posting is to fill a research need in the area of robotics and electrical systems.


Major Duties/Responsibilities


You will:

- Contribute to R&D projects and lead the expansion of R&D in robotics and intelligent systems.

- Support electrical design and integration efforts toward developing state-of-the-art manufacturing (additive, subtractive, composites) and robotics platforms

- Support large technical projects related to advanced manufacturing through electrical systems design

- Guide work of and mentor students and interns


Qualifications Required

The position requires:


  • A BS or MS in Electrical Engineering with a focus on electrical system design, integration and troubleshooting (signal and power).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support team building and leadership are required.
  • The demonstrated ability to manage project schedules, scopes, and budgets is required.
  • This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license.
