We are seeking an Emergency Management Specialist who will focus on providing emergency management expertise in several areas at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  These positions reside in the Facilities and Operations Directorate, Laboratory Protection Division, Emergency Services Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  


As part of our team, you will work in a professional setting under minimal supervision performing the following duties in the Emergency Management Team.


Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Support the ORNL Local Emergency Squads to include planning and preparation.
  • Assist senior EM Team members in a variety of tasks to include, but not limited to, training, exercises, and continuity of operations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with counterparts, Laboratory leadership, oversight organizations, and the local, regional, national emergency management community.
  • May participate in assessment programs.
  • May assist in the delivery of emergency management training to personnel
  • Serve as a member of the emergency response organization (ERO).
  • May oversee a variety of facilities and equipment.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Emergency Management  or other related degree
  • A minimum of two years of experience in emergency management.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse Program (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an on-going random drug testing program.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Emergency Management.
  • Familiarity with the operations of an EOC.
  • Familiarity with systems such as WebEOC.     
  • Ability to effectively communicate with senior management and a wide variety and level of staff. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interface with Federal, State, and Local government agencies.
