Overview: 

We are seeking a Hybrid Manufacturing Research Technician who will focus on enabling research in the field of hybrid manufacturing, or the combination of additive and subtractive manufacturing.  This position resides in the Manufacturing Systems Design Group in the Manufacturing Science Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  

 

As part of our research team, you will…

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Support fundamental research in the field of hybrid manufacturing
  • Interface with industrial partners to operate, improve, and maintain equipment
  • Program and execute CNC operations to support ongoing research

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in directed energy deposition technology
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in robotic or CNC system operation
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience as a research engineer or technician

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory 
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs

 

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
