Overview:  

We are hiring a knowledgeable Macintosh & Windows Systems Management Engineer who will focus on delivering global solutions to enable a hybrid workforce! Our team manages over fourteen thousand client and server systems in a highly dynamic research community applying many configuration management systems. This position resides in the Client Support & Engineering group in the Digital Services Infrastructure & Operations division, of the Information Technology Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

• Engineer cross platform solutions to improve productivity, flexibility, and security for computing resources.
• Assist with the highest level of issue resoluiton as needed, working with manufacturers, vendors, support staff, and customers.
• Gather, collate, and present complex sets of data in an easily digestible way to a wide variety of audiences.
• Create and maintain internal operating procedures, work instructions, and end user documentation.

Basic Qualifications:

• A BS in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, science, engineering, business, or a related field of study and five (5) to seven (7) years of aligned experience is required for consideration. An overall combination of equivalent experience may be considered.
• Expert experience diagnosing and resolving all versions and variations of Windows and macOS, in their installation, configuration, management and operations.
• Experience in security vulnerability assessment and remediation using industry standard tools to analyze IAVM/CVE/CIS findings.
• Ability to work with a diverse team and help influence/inspire change across functional boundaries, working with both technical and non-technical staff.
• Strong quantitative, analytical, problem-solving skills, including the ability to accumulate, organize, and assimilate large amounts of information.
• The ability to work occasional extended and weekend hours to resolve urgent problems or meet critical milestones is required.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ten (10) or more years of experience.
• Experience scripting using PowerShell and Bash.
• Understanding of a Microsoft Configuration Manager and JAMF infrastructures.
• Intune and Group Policy management experience.
• A background applying and troubleshooting configuration/hardening guidelines (DISA, CIS, etc.).
• Understanding of operating system deployment.
• A broad familiarity of management solutions for power management, AV, health monitoring, and cyber security best practices.
• Experience working in a science or technology environment is desired.

• This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
