Purpose

The Plant Systems Biology group within the Biosciences Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks postdoctoral researchers with experience in plant genomics and genetics, molecular biology, synthetic biology, biochemistry, physiology or bioinformatics. Up to four positions are open for working on a variety of projects. Examples of publications from these projects include:

Major Duties / Responsibilities

The Plant Systems Biology Group seeks to explore and understand the network of genes, proteins, metabolites, and environmental signals that lead to improved plant characteristics and performance. The selected candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team of investigators undertaking broad, integrated approaches to enhance fundamental understanding of genetic controls on plant productivity, sustainability and plant-microbe interactions in bioenergy-relevant plants.

 

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in plant biology, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or related fields is required. Prior knowledge and demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following research areas are required:

  1. Genetic mapping
  2. Genetic engineering and genome-editing
  3. Molecular and biochemical characterizations of genes and pathways
  4. Plant cell wall biosynthesis
  5. Plant-microbe interactions

 

You will work with Populus and other model systems (i.e., Arabidopsis, tobacco, switchgrass and rice). Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a team are required.

 

Applicants cannot have received their PhD more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. 

This position is a full-time assignment for 24 months with the potential for extension. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and availability of funding.
