Overview: 

Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security.

 

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will support the Visualization Group in the Computer Science and Mathematics Division (CSMD), Computing and Computational Sciences Directorate (CCSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Research and development of new techniques for analysis of scientific data that will make impacts both in the scientific visualization and analysis communities and application sciences communities
  • Publish and present research results in journals and conferences
  • Joint work with other members of the Visualization Group, Data and AI Section and collaborating partners at other government laboratories, universities, and industry

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • A PhD in Computer Science or a related field completed within the last 5 years

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with scientific data
  • Experience with distributed memory programing
  • Experience with accelerator hardware, such as GPUs
  • Strong social and communication skills and experience working with multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong publication records in areas of expertise
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory 
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
