Overview:
We are seeking a Security Operations Specialist who will focus on ensuring security interests are protected in accordance with the applicable DOE and contract-mandated security requirements as part of a cross-functional team. This position resides in the Physical Security Team in the Security Programs Group, Laboratory Protection Division, Facility and Operations Directorate, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Ability to open/close and operate a security area and be responsible as a file point custodian.
- Oversee and document daily security operations activities.
- Initiate actions in the event of emergencies affecting assigned area (i.e. Take Cover, Shelter in Place, Evacuation).
- Assist with conducting S&S programmatic self-assessments, data calls for audits, corrective action plans, and resolution of findings.
- Understand the graded protection approach and the ability to practically evaluate protection measures.
- Assist with the development and implementation of security plans in support of VIP visits, classified visits, and other special projects; perform special assignments as determined by management.
- Provide support for development/revision of SBMS subject areas, internal procedures, facility security plans, and the ORNL Site Security Plan.
- Facilitate communications within the Security Programs Group, Laboratory Protection Division, Laboratory organizations, and other Prime Contractors.
- Develop and deliver S&S presentations as directed.
- Requires ability for 24/7 emergency response when needed.

Basic Qualifications:
- BS degree in Homeland Security, Security Management, Security Risk Management or related field.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in safeguards and security field.
- Must possess working knowledge of current versions of DOE Order 473.1A, Physical Protection Program.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specific experience in one or more of the following areas: physical security, security operations, protective force operations, security systems, program planning, information security, personnel security, and nuclear materials control and accountability.
- Working knowledge of DOE Order 470.3C, Design Basis Threat.
- Working knowledge of DOE Order 470.4B, Safeguards and Security Program or DOE Order 470.4C, Safeguards and Security Planning.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to quickly change from one task to a drastically different task.
- Strong analytical skills; customer service experience; and the ability to interpret, communicate, and implement complex instructions.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
Special Requirements:
- Q Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
