Overview:
The Enrichment Systems Fabrication and Demonstration section within the Enrichment Science and Engineering Division (ESED) is seeking an Assembly Technician Supervisor to oversee the fabrication and assembly of parts in our manufacturing shops. This group is focused on manufacturing of fabricated and assembled components to support the research, development, demonstration, and production of new gas centrifuge technology. Highly reliable R&D manufacturing is critical to program success.
The Enrichment Science and Engineering Division serves the nation in two critical areas: advancing enrichment technologies, and exploring enriched stable isotope production and applications. The division leverages an elite staff of scientists, engineers, technical professionals, and technicians with the world-leading capabilities of Oak Ridge National Laboratory to deliver groundbreaking advancements with a variety of applications, from national security to life-saving medical treatments. This position reports to the Research Manufacturing Group Leader.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
· Manages 10-15 Assembly, Fabrication, and Mechanical Operation Technicians
· Ensures all machines/shops are staffed with proper number of technicians
· Ensures technicians are qualified on tasks to support program needs
· Supports development of manufacturing documentation
· Interacts and communicates with “support groups” to ensure their team has what they need
· Tracks Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to ensure mission goals are achieved
· Reports on progress as needed
· Leads, guides, and evaluates staff performance
· Conducts staff performance assessments
· Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements
· Demonstrate dedication to strong teaming and a positive culture within the organization
Basic Qualifications:
· AS degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering Technology or a related technical discipline with a minimum of 8 years of technical and leadership experience in a manufacturing environment. A comparable combination of education and experience will be considered.
· Ability to hold and maintain a DOE Q security clearance is required
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Active DOE Q clearance
· Experience related to programs or research involving isotope enrichment technologies
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
· Supervisory experience
· Mechanical and electrical aptitude and experience
· Hands on centrifuge fabrication experience including but not limited to: machining, precision assembly, inspection, composites, and vacuum technology
· Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the Laboratory
· Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
Special Requirement:
This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license.
