Overview:
We are hiring an IT Technologist who will contribute to end user support on over ten thousand Windows/Macintosh/Linux computers and mobile devices throughout ORNL. This position resides in the Client and Service Management group of the Digital Services Infrastructure & Operations division in the Information Technology Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
The IT Technologist will work across a broad range of technologies including multiple areas of the business to address incidents, problems and requests. Responsibilities include answering and resolving contacts made to IT via phone, email, instant message, or in person and explaining solutions in technical and nontechnical terms. This position will also serve as a main point of contact for ORNL IT services and will deliver the full range of IT support services. These services include supporting: Operating systems; mobile devices (specifically iOS); E-Mail; Backup systems; Active Directory; software product updates; vulnerability resolution; and various support of other software products used on ORNL desktop systems. Responsibilities include configuring, troubleshooting, and modifying computing systems; resolving issues with operating systems and applications; proactively solving problems as part of a team; and training new IT staff on operations at ORNL.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Supporting the acquisition, configuration, preparation, and delivery of computing standards to current ORNL staff and new employees.

Addressing questions and providing assistance related to the purchase of computing equipment or related accessories.

Supporting iOS and mobile devices (including ordering, assignment of devices to staff, etc.)

Contributing to Knowledge Base articles by authoring, editing, or sharing with users when appropriate.

Addressing other tasks that may be administrative in nature in support of IT.

Performing other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:
-
An Associates degree in technology or a similarly related field of study and two (2) to four (4) years of aligned experience is required for consideration.

Minimum of one year of experience working in an Information Technology organization

Ability to handle and adapt to changing priorities and tasks and while multitasking on different various objectives

Friendly presence and helpful attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with others in a team environment

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows-based applications.

Ability to communicate clearly to technical staff and end-users either in-person, over the phone, or in writing.

Willingness to share knowledge and mentor less-experienced personnel

Create and review Knowledge Base articles for the group

Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
An Associates degree and three years directly related experience supporting IT initiatives.

Knowledge of ORNL practices, policies, and procedures
-
Knowledge of ORNL’s computing environment.

Knowledge of the ServiceNow’s ITIL management system
-
Knowledge and experience working with ORNL-supported software: e.g. Adobe; Entrust; etc.

Familiarity and knowledge of ORNL’s IT systems, SBMS, and other processes to provide accurate guidance to customers
Special Requirements:

Q Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
