Overview:    

We are hiring a Project Management Specialist to support the project efforts on either large-scale scientific research and development projects or large scientific instrument projects! This position resides in the Project Management Office (PMO) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

 

Joining our team means helping the Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Research & Analysis (MEERA) Group at ORNL. You'll collaborate with ORNL's Program Manager over our Better Plants and Better Climate Challenge teams to ensure program initiatives are carried out and communicated effectively. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing various aspects of the program, including program reporting, data systems, newsletters, webinars, training activities, and communication strategies.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:   

  •  Support principal investigators or project directors in facilitating and coordinating project activities, project reporting, sponsor communication and field work coordination.
  • Work with project staff to develop and maintain schedules, cost estimates, assist with risk identification, and change control.
  • Provide day-to-day support to the project with schedule and cost maintenance and status, and forecasting and assist in generating monthly reports on project status and performance.
  • Perform ad-hoc activities as instructed by the project manager, principal investigator or project director.
  • Provide support to teammates in preparing for various project reviews, including internal and external project status reviews.
  • Establish a method to monitor program is performance and communicate findings regularly.
  • Own the data system for tracking Better Plants in-person and virtual training activities, including the number of events, people trained, and qualitative data on impacts.
  • Build and distribute the group's monthly newsletter, highlighting important program highlights.
  • Lead all aspects of the organization and management of webinars and working groups.
  • Develop slides and monthly/quarterly reports to meet sponsor needs.
  • Assist in coordinating virtual in-plant trainings, handling virtual training sessions online, and collaborating with DOE system authorities to develop training materials.
  • Support the organization of in-person in-plant trainings, Energy Bootcamps, and Carbon Bootcamps, including maintaining databases and developing monthly impact reports.
  • Work closely with the Better Plants program manager to maintain technical resources on DOE and Better Plants websites.
  • Author articles, blogs, and reports on Energy Efficiency, Decarbonization, and Sustainability.
  • Support the development of effective communication strategies and lead efforts to disseminate program information to industrial partners.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A BS/BA degree and two (2) to four (4) years of aligned experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • A BS/BA degree in project or construction management, business, science, engineering or a related field of study and a minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of aligned experience.
  • Training/Certifications like PMP, CAPM, PRINCE2, CSM, CSPO, MIP-ACP, AgilePM, IAPM, or similarity related.
  • Experience with cost processors, risk analysis and simulation software, change control applications, and custom system and report development like Oracle Primavera, Deltek Cobra or similar technologies.
  • Very strong communications skills, with the ability to successfully interact with DOE, project reviewers, senior laboratory management and senior project staff members.
  • Familiarity with energy efficiency, decarbonization, and sustainability concepts.
  • Experience with operating within the Salesforce CRM ecosystem.
