Job Duties and Responsibilities:

If you are the right person for this challenge, you will have previous experience in research related to unmanned systems development and operation. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Operating, maintaining, and repairing a variety of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and ground support equipment (GSE).
  • Conducting field data collection campaigns as a member of a flight crew.
  • Development, integration, and testing of a wide variety of unmanned vehicles including both fixed and rotary wing aircraft, ground vehicles, and surface vehicles.
  • Integration, operation, and maintenance of multiple payloads including:
    • Multispectral/Hyperspectral Imagers
    • Short/Long Wave Infrared Imagers
    • Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR)
    • Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)
    • Environmental Samplers
  • Automated workflow processing of collected data in ENVI, Pix4D, and/or Python
  • Must be comfortable with CONUS travel up to 20% of your time.

 

Basic Requirements:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree with at least 2 years of related experience.  Degree must be in aeronautics, aviation, engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, natural sciences, or related discipline.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team.
  • FAA Remote Pilot Certificate (Part 107).
  • Minimum of 25 logged hours as pilot in command of small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS).
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills to design, troubleshoot, and repair various mechanical and low-power electrical systems

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 100+ logged hours as pilot in command of a variety of small UAS.
  • Proficient in software languages such as C++ or Python.
  • Operational experience with a variety of Group I/II unmanned aircraft. Experience with non-DJI systems is preferred.
  • Experience developing, operating, and maintaining open-source autonomous vehicle control systems such as Ardupilot/PX4 & ROS.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate in English to a scientific audience.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative and frequently interacting teams of researchers.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
  • Proven track record of publishing peer-reviewed UAS-related research
