The ORNL Protective Force has a position opening for an experienced Central Alarm Station (CAS) operator. CAS operators are responsible for providing continuous monitoring and assessment of security and emergency systems, timely and accurate alarm notification, reporting of essential elements of information in support of responding Protective Force, and alarm resolution.
Personnel must complete the requisite training course criteria approved by the NTC or have previously been a DOE Security Police Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for ensuring the integrity of alarms and computer systems; perform alarm system testing, help to identify anomalies and to initiate appropriate actions for repair and security response measures using established procedures, under close supervision.
- Follow standard practices and procedures to implement the site security incident response plan.
- Communicate with system managers, programmers, and technicians regarding system malfunctions; participate in troubleshooting and help to identify solutions to difficult problems associated with maintaining databases.
- Operate and monitor radio communications with security police officers, alarm technicians and maintenance personnel during routine and emergency situations and record activity.
- Prioritize and Dispatch appropriate security personnel in accordance with plans, policies, procedures, and mutual aid agreements for routine and emergency responses,
- Operate and monitor closed circuit televisions, video surveillance systems, alarm monitoring systems wide area radio systems, etc.
- Initiate and prepare various reports, records, forms and logs in accordance with established procedures.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of and comply with applicable Department of Energy (DOE) and ORNL security procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Basic (Required) Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five years’ experience as a Central Alarm System operator or as a law enforcement dispatcher.
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Work will involve various physical requirements and certain working conditions and as such a post offer, pre-hire physical will be required
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-security clearance and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse Program (WSAP) testing designated position and HRP position. WSAP and HRP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an on-going random drug and alcohol testing program as well as annual psychological assessments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Currently possess or exhibit the ability to successfully complete a basic CAS training course designed to provide an expert level of skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform tasks associated with the CAS operations.
- Verified experience applying established organizational plans, orders, policies and procedures and the ability to understand DOE requirements.
- Completion of an accredited college degree program (i.e. Associates, Bachelors, etc.
- Experience working in a CAS or other alarm management control center.
- Ability to exercise patience, tact, and courtesy when dealing with people and to perform effectively in stressful situations.
- Good to excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diplomacy patience and tact with a wide variety of people in difficult situations.
- Good computer skills and the ability to utilize Microsoft office tools such as excel and word.
- Exhibit the ability of working cooperatively and effectively with coworkers and the ability to work effectively in a confined environment under periods of intense activity.
- Organizational skills to independently determine and set priorities in a fast-paced environment and ability to complete multiple projects and assignments in a timely manner.
