Overview:
We are seeking a Chestnut Ridge Materials Operations Supervisor who will focus on the coordination, planning, and scheduling work within the Materials Management work group. They will team with craft workers and other support personnel in task preparation and planning to ensure that work is conducted in a safe, compliant, timely and efficient manner. Supervisor works closely with research and support organizations to meet their needs promptly and cost effectively. Supervisor is responsible for the generation and review of technical procedures and training of assigned craft and administrative employees. This position is primarily supervising materials management activities, but the incumbent maybe called on to supervise other craft or administrative work as needed. This position resides in the Chestnut Ridge Materials Operations in the Logistical Services Division of Facilities & Operations Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
As a member of the Logistical Services Materials Management team, the Chestnut Ridge Supervisor is expected to:

Promote and maintain a business culture that focuses on meeting the needs of the research, craft, and maintenance personnel.

Serve in an important customer interface role for materials management support to ensure that customer’s materials management needs are met.

Ensure that work tasks are properly analyzed and graded according to ORNL work control procedures.

Assist in developing and reviewing work plans, procedures, and job aids.

Manage materials management activities, including the material receipt, distribution, and storage as well as internal stores inventory according to established procedures and business rules.

Provide support, as appropriate to craft and administrative employees as they perform work.

Possess working knowledge of materials management functions including:
-
Inventory management
-
Receipt and distribution of incoming materials to including Bulk, Fragile, Top Heavy and Hazardous.

Requirements for Department of Transportation (DOT) commercial driver’s license with hazardous materials endorsement and DOT vehicles
-
Material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, liftgates, etc.

Property management processes

Ensure that all materials management activities are conducted in total compliance with the governing DOE Standard and within established budgets and schedules.

Work closely with their counterparts within the division to support administrative functions, training needs, timekeeping, workforce instruction and direction, performance evaluation and feedback, efficiency improvements, and other activities supporting the division’s business plan.

Basic Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent
-
A minimum of 9years of experience performing materials management activities with an in-depth knowledge of inventory management systems and techniques.

Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with all levels of management, customers, procurement, and vendors.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
-
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
-
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.

Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced ever changing work environment, while maintaining the highest level of attention to detail.

Prior experience with automated and manual inventory systems to include:
-
SAP (Ariba - ORNL Buy / CIF Catalogs)
-
EAM (PPG Software)
-
SharePoint
-
SNS Inventory Control
-
Other software programs dealing with inventory management.

Familiarity with labor relations principles and working within a collective bargaining union contract environment.
