ORNL Human Resources is seeking an experienced and innovative Compensation Manager, responsible for leading an experienced team in development and execution of the Laboratory’s compensation programs and initiatives as a component of our Total Rewards strategy.  In this position you contribute to ORNL’s success by assuring that the compensation program is aligned with the goals of the Laboratory, to attract and retain the world-class talent needed to support its mission.

 

About the job:

As the Compensation Manager, you will be responsible for the strategic development, implementation technical direction, and maintenance of the Laboratory's compensation programs and initiatives. You will ensure compliance of all established compensation policies and procedures with federal and state requirements. The Compensation Manager will drive a program that ensures fairness, equity and pay for performance while incorporating innovative ideas, solutions, and best practices to ensure best in class.  As the Compensation Manager, you will also manage a staff of compensation analysts that serve as consultants to organization.  This position reports to the Total Rewards Director.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Evaluate external market data and internal organizational need to ensure competitive pay practices
  • Ensure consistent and effective application of established compensation policies, procedures, and best practices across all directorates
  • Function as steward of the merit, adjustment, promotion, and variable pay budgets
  • Advise Human Resources Business Partners on deployment of compensation strategies that help their organizations accomplish their missions
  • Work with Talent Strategy and Talent Acquisition to establish an efficient and successful process for setting salary offers
  • Partner with General Counsel and corporate Diversity Officer to ensure that the compensation program is legally compliant and supportive of all diversity goals
  • Partner with Talent Data & Analytics to design, develop, and sustain reporting and analytics to maintain business intelligence for decision making
  • Recruit, retain, and mentor a compensation staff in support of career objectives, ensuring all are knowledgeable and empowered to support the assigned organizations

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or other related fields
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible compensation experience
  • At least 3 years of experience as a compensation manager

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Arts or Science in Business, Human Resources or other related fields
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP)
  • Ability to build relationships and partner effectively with internal customers and stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a science and technology company, industry, and/or as a DOE Managing and Operating contractor
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer focus; ability to build relationships, influence, and collaborate at all levels
  • High level of professionalism, personal integrity, and dependability
  • Adept at working in a cross-functional environment in a highly collaborative manner
  • Extremely organized and able to conceptualize solutions when faced with complex challenges
