The Computational Science and Engineering Division in the Computing and Computational Sciences Directorate and the Climate Change Science Institute (http://climatechangescience.ornl.gov/) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks to hire a Research Scientist in the area of algorithmic development for Earth System Modeling, specifically in the areas of hydrologic and hydraulics  simulation.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • You will contribute to ORNL and multi-lab efforts to develop and implement novel algorithms for next generation global and regional hydrologic and flood models, to be executed on pre-exascale architectures and in preparation for exascale.
  • You will collaborate with highly diverse and multidisciplinary teams of computer scientists, applied mathematicians, civil engineers, climate and weather scientists, and computational scientists at ORNL's Climate Change Science Institute (CCSI), other DOE Labs, and partner universities and provide expertise in the areas of advanced algorithms and Earth system model development and execution.
  • You will join a growing team within CCSI focused on the development and analysis of Earth system models for advanced architectures to address pressing science questions for Earth systems. Maximizing computational performance on hybrid and multicore architectures that are slated to be among the fastest in the world is a priority.
  • Author peer reviewed papers, technical reports and proposals for internal and external release and represent the organization by giving technical presentations in large public forums.
  • Be a part of a vibrant collaborative research environment which will provide the opportunity to perform cutting-edge research in high-performance computing, using ORNL’s Leadership Class Supercomputer.
