Overview: 

We are seeking a Conference and CBE Specialist who will focus on oversight of the Conference and Controlled Business Expense (CBE) Areas within the Accounting Operations Division and Business Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  

 

As part of our accounting team, you will…

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Performs independent reconciliation and audit of closed conferences as governed by ORNL policies. Makes independent decisions on the appropriateness of costs based on internal guidance.
  • Responsible for providing oversight and guidance on Controlled Business Expenses (CBE) by auditing submitted expenses to determine compliance with business rules and allowability of costs against government contract.
  • Responsible for maintaining Standard Based Management System (SBMS) lab wide requirements for topics pertaining to this position.
  • Maintain and provide metrics reporting for the Accounting Operations division.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and efficiency opportunities.
  • Develop and present training to lab-wide staff on the business rules and process for Conference and Controlled Business Expenses.
  • Ensure related policies and procedures are reviewed and maintained as current.
  • Serves as the Subject Matter Expert for internal policies related to Controlled Business Expenses.
  • Collaborate and work closely with Conference and Payment Services Groups.
  • Prepare reconciliations and audit functions as assigned for both internal and external auditors.
  • Prepare and assist with yearend requirements related to Conference audit and CBE tasks.
  • Participate or complete special projects as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in accounting, finance, or a business-related field and 5-7 years relevant experience. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and well-developed written and oral communication skills are required.  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential. 
  • Requires proficiency in applying accounting principles, policies, and procedures.
  • Position requires good human relations skills that promote effective and positive interactions with a diverse group of others, both internal and external to company.
  • Candidate should have the ability to become familiar with the ORNL accounting system and external business applications to proficiently perform responsible tasks.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Accounting along with knowledge of UT-Battelle and DOE accounting systems, policies, and procedures is desired. 
  • Experience with SAP and other software applications is preferred.

  • Successfully performs assigned responsibilities in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Successfully completes special projects as assigned.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
  • Proficient use of UT-Battelle and DOE accounting systems to ensure efficiency and compliance.
  • Works effectively with others, both internal and external to ORNL.
  • Effective and efficient resolution of problems and/or issues that arise.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of any that arise which may have an impact on successful and/or compliant operations.
