Overview: 

We are seeking a Corporate Accountant  who will focus on supporting the Corporate Accounting function within the Business Services Directorate at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The incumbent will assist management and will perform various critical functions. Responsibilities will also include other projects as assigned.  This position resides in the Treasury and Corporate Accounting group in Business Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:  

  • Support the maintenance of the corporate general ledger accounts and related reporting master data configuration
  • Prepare general ledger account reconciliations
  • Analyze accounting data and develop general ledger entries
  • Performing month-end and year-end closing functions
  • Support the preparation of the corporate financial statements
  • Support preparation of the monthly corporate reporting package
  • Prepare and disseminate a variety of monthly financial and activity reports
  • Prepare and maintain reporting and records of the Royalty Accounting function
  • Prepare monthly billings and related reconciliations
  • Process monthly payables and related reconciliations
  • Support the preparation of the annual partnership tax return
  • Support the completion of various audits and assessments both internal and external
  • Analyze data or complex problems of various types
  • Interface with DOE, Inspector General, internal, and external audit staff involved in financial statement audits and other requests for information
  • Identify and remain compliant with financial laws and regulations 
  • Adhere to strict weekly, monthly, fiscal and calendar year submission and required reporting deadlines 
  • Ability to become familiar with the ORNL accounting system and external databases in order to proficiently perform required tasks

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and a minimum of five years of related experience. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Public accounting experience involving financial reporting and audit.  Master's degree in accounting or finance with four or more years of broad training and experience. 
  • CPA preferred. 
  • SAP and SAGE experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated planning and organizing skills, ability to coordinate many projects simultaneously with changing priorities, and excellent problem analysis and resolution skills. 
  • Must possess the ability and willingness to work effectively as a member of a team, as well as independently. 
  • Excellent attention to detail, well-developed written and oral communication skills, and an ability to conduct analysis of accounting information and effectively present impacts.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess priorities, allocate workloads and meet conflicting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in applying accounting principles, policies, and procedures, and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). 
  • Ability to interface with administrative, scientific, and technical staff. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software, such as Excel, Access, Word, and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Successfully performs assigned responsibilities in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Successfully completes special projects as assigned.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
  • Proficient use of UT-Battelle and DOE accounting systems to ensure efficiency and compliance.
  • Works effectively with others, both internal and external to the Laboratory.
  • Effective and efficient resolution of problems and/or issues that arise.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of any issues that arise which may have an impact on successful and/or compliant operations.
