Overview: 

Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. We are seeking a cyber security technical professional who will support the cyber resilience and intelligence division  at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). This position will be responsible for supporting multiple research efforts by creating and maintaining the infrastructure that enables large-scale cyber experimentation.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Build and maintain flexible infrastructure for large-scale cyber experiments to support the national security mission
  • Provide input on system design based on system and security expertise
  • Lead technical tasks and mentor other staff members
  • Present briefings and instruction to technical audiences, leadership and sponsors on cyber security issues, research, and programs.
  • Assist in the development of research proposals related to critical infrastructure protection and cyber-physical security.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 12 years experience. A combination of education and experience may also be considered.
  • A fundamental understanding of cyber security methods, tools, and operational applications, and the ability to apply cyber security technical knowledge
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and certifications with AWS and other cloud infrastructure
  • Operations center (SOC or NOC) experience
  • Experience implementing DevSecOps in a research environment
  • Familiarity with SAST and DAST tools and creating CI/CD pipelines
  • A strong understanding of threat intelligence and vulnerability management
  • Leadership experience

Special Requirements:

 

Q clearance with SCI: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an Secret Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.  In addition, due the SCI, you may be also be subject to random polygraph testing.
