Overview:
The Research and Development Systems Engineering (RDSE) Group in the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks to hire a DevOps Engineer. In this position, the individual selected will be embedded within our Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) group in the Energy and Environmental Sciences Directorate providing DevOps support.
Job Activities:
There are various technical tasks that will need to be performed in this role. Some of these tasks can include:
- Develop solutions utilizing the including, but not limited to the following technologies: containers, Slurm schedulers, GitLab, and Kubernetes.
- Develop and operate back-end data analysis workflows and processing at scale in an HPC environment.
- Design and develop solutions on hybrid HPC and Cloud Computing Platforms
- Supporting various scripting languages, including Python and Bash, in a Linux environment.
- Deploy containers in a Docker/Kubernetes environment using CI/CD pipelines.
- Develop documentation for the various solutions you produce.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of DevOps experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered).
- 2 years of Linux Systems Engineering experience.
- Experience managing a Kubernetes container environment.
- Experience building, deploying, and managing Docker containers in a CI/CD environment.
- Knowledge of scripting languages, including Python and Bash.
- Demonstrated capabilities to work in a dynamic environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills suitable for user support and the ability to work well with peer system administrators is required.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (or related field).
- Experience working in an HPC environment.
- Experience working with databases, including NoSQL, Postgres, and MySQL.
- Knowledge of virtualization and container infrastructure (VMware).
- Previous experience working in a government, scientific or other highly technical environment strongly desired.
- Desire to learn and adopt new tools and technologies.
- Good documentation skills are also desired.
