Overview:  

We are seeking a scientist who will focus on developing dynamic nuclear polarization techniques.  This position resides in the HFIR Low Temperature and Magnets Group in the Sample Environment and User Labs Section, Neutron Scattering Division, Neutron Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Develop dynamic nuclear polarization techniques for use on neutron scattering beamlines.
  • Collaborate with instrument scientists and users in the design of experiments.
  • Develop low-temperature and magnetic field techniques for neutron scattering experiments.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A PhD degree in physics, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in low-temperature systems, superconducting magnets, or dynamic nuclear polarization.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing/operating dynamic nuclear polarization systems.
  • Experience in developing/operating sample environment for scattering experiments in neutron, photon, or electron beams.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.

 

Special Requirements:

Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.

 

Letters of Recommendation: If you are selected for interview, you may be required to submit two letters of recommendation.
