ORNL’s Partnerships organization is hiring an Economic Development Analyst to work as part of the Economic Development team by researching industry interactions, collecting data that demonstrate their direct and indirect economic impact, and producing materials to spotlight successful partnerships, collaborations, and projects. The ideal candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams, government agencies, industry stakeholders, and academic institutions to assess the broader implications of scientific discoveries and innovations.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead economic data analytics projects from start to finish, including collecting, integrating, analyzing, visualizing, and reporting data related to technology transfer, commercialization, job creation, energy production and savings, and regional economic growth of ORNL’s mission areas, partnering with IT professionals to:
- Research and identify available data sources to support decision making,
- Develop methods to automate data gathering processes,
- Produce dashboards, including graphics, tables and other visualizations,
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for stakeholders, including ORNL, government agencies, and private sector partners.
- Have a general understanding of economic development activities and track regional and national economic development activities.
- Coordinate closely with economic development team and communications professionals to integrate communications across ORNL Directorates.
- Routinely collect and enter data as needed to maintain up-to-date databases.
- Strategically manage data and create metrics and analyses that lead to improvements in tracking of economic impact indicators and economic development processes.
- Identify key metrics to support economic development impacts. Shape data and metrics to create a lasting and strategic impact through data-driven storytelling.
- Be able to show research data results related to ORNL missions and the potential for future economic impact in the region around ORNL.
- Think critically and make suggestions for process improvements, presenting and tracking data, etc. highlighting economic development impacts.
- Collaborate with various divisions within the laboratory to understand ongoing research efforts and their potential economic impacts.
- Partner with communications professionals to create communication products showcasing data, metrics and analyses, including presentations and reports. Draft materials to support additional economic development communication materials.
- Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in economic development activities.
- Create and manage strategic initiatives related to economic development data and metrics.
- Given a specific ORNL mission area, conduct research to provide data analysis for activities occurring in other parts of the US.
- Provide the initial development of fact sheets related to economic development activities and successes.

Basic Qualifications:
- BS degree in business, business analytics, or communications related fields.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with data analysis applications and research tools.
- Excellent written and oral communication/presentation skills.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to changing needs.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, summarize, and present information effectively.
- Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently.
- Ability to work with team members to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly goals and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with and an understanding of economic development principles.
- Experience interacting with representatives from economic development organizations.
- Familiarity with technology transfer, commercialization processes, and innovation ecosystem.
- Excellent computer skills with emphasis in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
- Excellent reasoning, problem identification/solving, and analytical skills.
