Overview:  
The Facilities Management Division is seeking to hire an Electrical Facility Engineer to support the Hardin Valley Campus.  The Electrical Facility Engineer in this role is responsible for designing, developing, installing, managing, and/or maintaining electrical distribution equipment and components.  This position will serve as the primary technical resource and Design Authority for issues related to electrical systems that support the Research and Development (R&D) activities.  The main scope of work is to ensure that the necessary systems and processes operate effectively, efficiently, and safely.  This position will also provide oversite to ensure the building owner is providing services required by the leases.  This position resides in the Hardin Valley Complex within the Facilities Management Division under the Facilities and Operations Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

 

This position reports to the Hardin Valley Complex Facility Manager.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:  

  • Working with R&D staff and support organizations, develops system requirements documents for installation of R&D equipment
  • Analyzes the ability of systems and components to meet performance requirements established in specifications
  • Creates conceptual designs and design packages for repairs, replacement, and upgrades of electrical components and systems
  • Develops detailed specifications and statements of work for the design and installation of electrical support equipment
  • Estimates costs related to design, materials and labor
  • Ensures proper design reviews are conducted
  • Serves as the Technical Project Officer providing oversight and technical direction for equipment installations and testing
  • Ensures compliance with Environmental, Safety and Health and Quality Assurance requirements for subcontracted construction/installation projects
  • Maintains an in-depth understanding of the technical aspects of the facility systems for/which they are responsible
  • Analyzes and trends results of preventative maintenance and equipment performance history
  • Works with equipment owners, vendors, suppliers and building managers to troubleshoot and correct issues
  • Knowledge of standards, codes, and regulations with respect to construction and the maintenance of equipment and facilities
  • Responsible for configuration management of electrical support systems
  • Provides oversight of building leases to ensure required services and maintenance is performed
  • Cultivate a close relationship with customers to understand their needs, respond quickly to their requests, and provide feedback in a timely manner

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • An accredited B.S degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in facility systems, operations, and maintenance.  An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
  • Work will involve various physical requirements and as such a post offer, pre-hire physical will be required.

  • The ability to understand and manage technical issues related to facility infrastructure
  • Candidates should have strong computer skills, good interpersonal abilities, and good communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
