We are seeking an Elevator Technician/Electrician who will focus on maintaining elevators, dumbwaiters, and vertical reciprocating conveyor. As an elevator mechanic, you will be required to perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot malfunctioning systems, repair, or replace parts, and conduct periodic safety tests. This position resides in the Surveillance and Inspection Team, Integrated Operations Support, Facilities and Operations at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Maintaining a schedule for servicing, repairing, and testing elevators.
  • Troubleshooting equipment and performing routine preventative maintenance.
  • Reading, interpreting, and following instructions and operation manuals.
  • Responding to mechanical failures and systems malfunctions.
  • Servicing and maintaining elevator equipment.
  • Repairing or replacing parts.
  • Conducting periodic test CAT 1 and CAT 5.
  • Maintaining good housekeeping.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma.
  • Completion of Certified Elevator Technician or International Union of Elevator Constructor Mechanic’s License.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as an elevator mechanic.
  • Advanced knowledge of elevator systems.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
  • Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical malfunctions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory 
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
