We are seeking an Enrichment Technology – Performance Assurance Specialist who will support the Technical Support Services Group in the Enrichment Science and Engineering Division (ESED), Isotope Science and Engineering Directorate (ISED) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

 

ESED serves the nation in two critical areas: advancing enrichment technologies and exploring stable isotope production and applications. The division leverages an elite staff of scientists and engineers with the world-leading capabilities of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to deliver groundbreaking advancements with a variety of applications, from national security to life-saving medical treatments.

 

ESED is the national steward for the research, development, and demonstration of centrifuge technology. The successful candidate will provide support for research and development using principles of Integrated Safety Management (ISM) within a division that supports multiple projects and programs.

 

The Technical Support Services Group is focused on providing division-wide services in support of the strategic advancement of science and technology focused on the research and development of prototype enrichment devices for processing uranium-bearing and stable isotope compounds.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will support staff including line managers, program and project managers, quality assurance representatives, and data analysts, by championing the development and maintenance of an integrated data acquisition system/program used to gather and monitor data and information (including experiences, lessons learned, and trends) related to machine/system performance for further analysis.

 

Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Develop and maintain a centralized system/program to track and trend issues related to testing and operational events.
  • Coordinate with appropriate staff to determine root cause of events or machine performance.
  • Review and monitor project implementation and corrective action plans for improvements resulting from identified issues through closure.
  • Review audits, assessments, and reported issues associated with testing and operations to ensure the appropriated level of action is taken to advance machine development, manage risk, and promote improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with ESED Quality Representatives for issues related to non-conformance, safety, or health.
  • Lead continuous improvements initiatives in support of quality and performance management.
  • Coordinate regular reviews for ESED leadership of status of the technology continuous improvement efforts.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors degree in a scientific or technical field and a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with development and maintenance of data collection and/or issues management systems
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

 

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Q clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting multiple organizations within a project or program
  • Experience in a Research & Development and/or testing environment
