Overview:
We are seeking a Facility Engineer who will focus as the primary technical resource and Design Authority for issues related to facility infrastructure. This position resides iin the Facilities Management Division within the Facilities and Operations Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
As part of our team, you will be the resident authority on engineering aspects related to system operations and maintenance. Facility Engineers ensure configuration control for facilities and systems and manages the Preventive/Predictive Maintenance programs.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Support the design, installation and maintenance of electrical, mechanical and HVAC installations.
- Facility Engineers must have and maintain an in-depth understanding of the technical aspects of the facility systems for/which they are responsible.
- Estimates costs related to design, materials and labor, and monitors construction process.
- Maintain and continually improve preventive maintenance systems and processes.
- Coordinate outside contract work for construction or repair.
- Knowledge of standards, codes, and regulations with respect to construction and the maintenance of equipment and facilities.
- They must cultivate a close relationship with customers to understand their needs, respond/quickly to their requests, and provide feedback in a timely manner.
- They have primary responsibility for facility and system/modifications (design, construction oversight, acceptance testing, etc.).
- Effectively support other Core Team members
- Manage projects and support large projects performed inside the complex
- Write Scopes of Work for modifications and services for the facilities
- Technical Project Officer for purchases, subcontracts, and services.
- Work with craft employees in a union environment.
- Plans and schedules maintenance activites and operational outates. Lead pre-job meetins with all stakeholders, including craft personnel, to gain commitment from all team members.
- Coordinates emergency repair efforts for critical building equipment.
- Leads skilled craft personnel in identifying, troubleshooting, and performing reapairs.
- Generates drawing redlines to update as-bult drawings under configuration control. Performs field verification of equipment and building systems to ensure configuration control.
- Participates in design of systems for new facilities or replacement of aging equipment. Includes evaluation of equipment selections and configuration of associated equipment.
- Ensure compliance with Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) and Quality Assurance (QA) requirements for operations and subcontracted construction/installation projects.

Basic Qualifications:
- An accredited B.S degree in Mechanical,Electrical, Industrial or other engineering degree is required.
- A minimum of two years of experience in facility systems, operations, and maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to work and communicate (written and oral) effectively with diverse teams of engineers, scientists, and technicians.
- Experience in HVAC and their control systems, industrial piping design, and in 480 VAC 3 phase power distribution
- The ability to understand and manage technical issues related to facility infrastructure
- Candidates should have strong computer skills, good interpersonal abilities, and good communication skills
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
Special Requirements:
Security Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
