Overview:
We are seeking a Materials Management Group Leader to support the Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s research and support organizations by providing leadership, support, and guidance for the supervisors, administrative professionals, support staff, and bargaining unit staff responsible for the receipt, storage, and distribution of materials, enabling them to perform their tasks in a safe, effective, and efficient manner. This position resides in the Materials Management Organization in the Logistical Services Division of the Facilities and Operations Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manages materials activities to ensure prompt and accurate receipt and distribution of incoming materials and prompt material returns to vendors.
- Manages control activities for stores and precious metals inventories to ensure continual accountability of government inventory in accordance with applicable government regulations.
- Establishes, revises, administers, and executes work plans and procedures and ensures a safe work environment.
- Provides management for a group of exempt, non-exempt, and bargaining unit employees.
- Develops and administers budgets and performance standards.
- Establishes short-to-long-term plans for material management activities and optimizes resources to ensure that organizational objectives are consistently met.
- Resolves and addresses bargaining unit employees’ grievances and other employees’ concerns.
- Develops materials-related SAP test plans, performs testing, and documents results.
- Models and assures ethical behavior and business and material management integrity in all interactions with employees and customers.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in logistics management, business, or related field.
- A minimum of ten years of materials management, logistics, or other related field as well as a minimum of 3 years management or supervisory experience.
- Experience working with requirements-based systems in areas such as facility operations, maintenance, and material handling.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of SAP material module is strongly desired.
- Familiarity with labor relations principles and working within a collective bargaining union contract environment is highly desirable.
- Experience with process improvement techniques such as Lean Six Sigma.
- Knowledge of regulations related to materials management such as Standards-Based Management System and DOE property management regulations.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines and adapt to ever-changing needs.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
