Overview:  

We are seeking a Hoisting and Rigging (H&R) Group Leader who will focus on providing leadership, support, and guidance to the employees of the Hoisting and Rigging Group daily, enabling them to perform their tasks in a safe, effective, and efficient manner.  This position resides in the Hoisting and Rigging group in the Logistical Services Division of the Facilities and Operations Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical direction and priorities to the frontline supervisors of the H&R crews.

  • Coordinate with H&R Supervisors, as well as customers to create and maintain schedules, plan projects, select equipment and create lift plans to ensure work is performed in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Develop and maintain a strong safety culture in the H&R Group.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A  BS degree in engineering such as structural, mechanical, civil, industrial, etc.

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Hoisting and Rigging operations and regulatory requirements (OSHA, NCCCO, ANSI, etc.) and a minimum of 3 years of management experience.

  • Experience working with requirements-based systems in areas such as facility operations, maintenance, and material handling.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A MS degree in field related to the position (structural or mechanical engineering)

  • Five years in a supervisory or management role.

  • Familiarity with labor relations principles and working within a collective bargaining union contract environment is highly desirable.

  • Experience with process improvement techniques such as Lean Six Sigma and Human Performance Indicators.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.

  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.

 

Special Requirements:

  • Q or L clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.

  • Visa Sponsorship: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
