Would you like to have a lasting and significant impact on a key user facility in the nation’s scientific infrastructure and strengthen U.S. scientific competitiveness? The Neutron Upgrades Project Office (NUPO) at ORNL is seeking a talented and enthusiastic leader to spearhead the planning and execution of major enhancements to the suite of neutron scattering instruments at the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR), a premier source of neutrons for the U.S. scientific community.

ORNL is preparing to replace a major reactor component, the permanent beryllium reflector, in the HFIR Beryllium Reflector Replacement (HBRR) activity and is using this opportunity to make key enhancements to its suite of 12 neutron scattering instruments and neutron beam delivery system. This is an approximately 8 year and >$150M undertaking that will include the planning and execution of removal and reinstallation of the instrument suite along with design and execution of targeted instrument improvements and some civil construction. Careful coordination with diverse stakeholders across multiple ORNL divisions is required. Thus, ORNL is seeking highly qualified candidates with demonstrated experience building and leading cross-disciplinary teams working in a complex environment to lead this important enhancement for the scientific community.
